After a luncheon at Brooksby Village in May 2017, Carol Bortman came away with the impression that the Peabody, Mass., community was a place she could call home.

In the months leading up to Bob Ciampa’s 80th birthday, Bob and his wife Peggy knew they had homework to do.

As an optical physicist, Bill Scouler devoted his career to the sciences until he retired in 1995.

“I wasn’t a big fan of history in school,” says Bill, who earned his Ph.D. from the Massachusetts Institute of Technology. “I was more of a math and science guy.”

When Monica McIntyre and Karen Tormey crossed the finish line at the sixteenth annual Brooksby Village Marathon, it was a moment they couldn’t have envisioned even six months earlier.

At first glance, you might think the group gathered in the Towne Centre Clubhouse at Brooksby Village is one of the Peabody community’s resident-run clubs.

And you’d be right.

But lean in a little closer and you might be surprised to hear the group of residents conversing in French.

As soon as Anne DeStefano stepped into the Brooksby Village apartment she now calls home, the natural light streaming through the bay window made an immediate impression.

“The apartment is so light and bright,” says Anne. “It was the first feature I noticed.”

Brooksby’s trees and water features highlight the  Erickson Living community’s natural beauty.

Much has changed since Brooksby Village opened its doors 17 years ago, including the community’s physical landscape.
