Meet the Charlestown Leadership Team

These individuals work diligently to ensure our Catonsville senior living community runs smoothly and efficiently.

Clara Parker, Executive Director

Clara Parker has been the executive director at Charlestown since 2012. Prior to joining the Charlestown team, Clara served as the vice president, regional finance director for Erickson Living, where she was responsible for the financial strategy of 8 of the 16 Erickson Living-managed campuses. She provided financial oversight, leadership development, and partnership with the finance team and executive teams of these campuses to ensure targeted outcomes and performance goals were achieved. Clara has over 30 years of experience in the not-for-profit finance arena and has spent the last 11 years in the senior living and health care sector.

Clara joined Oak Crest, an Erickson Living community in Parkville, MD, in 2005 as the finance director. In 2008, Clara took on a regional director role, providing mentoring, support, and financial guidance for five Erickson Living-managed communities in Maryland and Virginia with an extended focus on process improvement and re-engineering of financial operations. In 2010, Clara joined the corporate regional management team, partnering with the regional executive director and regional sales director, along with corporate and community stakeholders, to provide financial leadership and oversight for the supported campuses. Prior to joining Erickson Living, Clara was the senior director of finance for the American Red Cross national headquarters in Washington, DC.

Clara has a bachelor of science in finance and economics from Towson University and earned her M.B.A. from Loyola College in Maryland. 

 

Nathan Blumberg, Associate Executive Director

Nathan Blumberg has over 14 years of experience in consulting and project management and had provided business and operational support in the health care, commercial, and government sectors. His areas of professional focus have included management and operations, program development, customer service, and strategic planning. He was an instrumental partner to Charlestown in opening and transitioning staff and residents to Caton Woods in November 2016.

Nathan began his career with Erickson Living in 2012 as a project manager and recently served as senior director of operations, health services. Prior to joining Erickson Living, Nathan was a lead associate at Booz Allen Hamilton and a public policy coordinator with CropLife America. He is a certified project manager and holds a bachelor of business administration from The George Washington University. Nathan lives in the Baltimore area with his wife Amanda and twin girls, Valerie and Victoria.

Jangar Richards, Associate Executive Director

Jangar Richards began her career at Charlestown in 2017. Prior to joining the Charlestown team, she spent 12 years working for Johns Hopkins Hospital in various roles, most recently overseeing the operations of the International Patient Services department.

Jangar earned both her bachelor's and master's degrees in health services administration from George Washington University. She and her family live in Randallstown.

Paulette Tansill, Human Resources Director

Paulette Tansill has been director of human resources since 2001 and is responsible for the delivery of human resources programs and services to support the approximately 1,200 employees at Charlestown. Paulette has over 25 years of experience that include former positions of vice president of personnel at NationsBank and vice president of human resources at Visa International.

Paulette holds an M.S. in industrial and labor relations from West Virginia University as well as a B.S. in human resources and education also from West Virginia University. She holds a certificate in employment law compliance from The Council on Education in Management/The George Washington University and is a certified civil treatment instructor. She has previously represented Charlestown as a board member of The Caroline Center from 20002010. 

Sherry M. Parrish, L.C.S.W.-C., Resident Life Director

Sherry Parrish earned her undergraduate degree in 1970 from Mary Washington College in sociology and social welfare; her master’s degree in social work at the Virginia Commonwealth University in 1976; and a post master’s certificate in administration from the University of Maryland, School of Social Work, in 1983.

As director of resident life, she is responsible for the operations of the Resident Life department, including resident life administration, community resources (social programming), volunteer programming, social work services, intermissions, pastoral ministries, community television, fitness, home support, and certified home health.

Sherry has received several recognitions in social work during her 40 years as a social worker in long-term care, acute care manager, and health care administrator. She is a member of the Maryland Gerontological Association and the National Association of Social Workers. In 2013, she was named a “Pioneer” in the field of social work by the National Association of Social Workers. Sherry Joined Charlestown in 1994 as the director of resident services and was promoted to resident life director in 1996. She and her husband John live in Ellicott City, MD. Their daughter, Shannon, is soon to graduate from the University of Maryland School of Social Work with a master’s degree in social work.

Myla Carpenter, M.D., Senior Medical Director

Dr. Carpenter received her bachelor’s degree in biology from Stanford University in Palo Alto, California, and her medical degree from the University of California’s Davis School of Medicine in Sacramento, California. She completed her residency in internal medicine at the Washington Hospital Center in Washington, DC. She is board-certified in internal medicine. Dr. Carpenter joined Charlestown in May 1996.

Neal Gantert, Finance Director

Neal Gantert has held several leadership roles since joining Erickson Living. As director of finance at Charlestown, Neal is responsible for establishing and maintaining comprehensive financial controls and efficient procedures, financial planning and reporting, and supporting all financial needs of operations. Neal holds a bachelor of science degree in accounting from the University of Maryland, College Park. He resides in Cedarcroft with his wife and two daughters and coaches soccer with the Charles Village Recreational League.

Don Grove, Sales Director

Don Grove joined the Erickson Living family of communities in 2007 as director of sales and marketing after a 15-year career with the Baltimore Orioles where he most recently served as senior director of sales and ticketing. He is a native Marylander, with a bachelor of arts degree from the University of Maryland, College Park. Don lives in Ellicott City, is married with two children, and is active in his church and school communities.

Aida Blanco, Dining Services Director

Aida Blanco has over 16 years of experience in the hospitality industry. Her successful track record includes startup and streamlining operations, as well as improving customer service while preserving the highest levels of quality. Most recently, Aida has served as director of dining services for Shepherd University in Shepherdstown, WV. She was responsible for all aspects of campus dining operations, including multiple retail operations, concessions, catering, residential dining, and conference services. She is also a current culinary adjunct faculty member at Anne Arundel Community College.

Prior to 2015, Aida worked at the Maryland Food Bank and a variety of hotels including Walt Disney World Resort in Orlando, FL. She holds a bachelor of professional studies in culinary arts from the Culinary Institute of America in Hyde Park, NY. She is a certified dietary manager, certified food safety manager, and is a certified ServSafe proctor/instructor.

Patti Santoni, Director of Philanthropy

Patti Santoni has 25 years of experience in the health and human services field and more than 20 years of experience as a successful, high-level fundraiser for organizations such as St. Agnes Hospital, MedStar Health, The American Cancer Society, and Loyola Blakefield. 

Patti joined Charlestown in 2014 and is responsible for establishing, planning, directing, and coordinating all fundraising activities for the community. Patti also provides leadership for the creation of strategic fund development initiatives to include a major and planned giving program, annual giving, corporate and foundation giving, donor stewardship and recognition programs, and public relations related to development.

Patti holds an bachelor of science degree in health and human development from Pennsylvania State University. She and her husband Rob reside in Perry Hall with their son Bobby and daughter Jenna. 

Michael Fischer, General Services Director

Michael Fischer joined Charlestown in December 2015 as the security and emergency services manager. During his short tenure, he was promoted to senior services manager and then general services director. Michael retired from the Maryland State Police as a Lt. Colonel and chief of operatrions. He continued to serve two additional state agencies in leadership roles, retiring after 33 years of service.

Michael holds a B.S. and M.B.A. from Almeda University and a post graduate certificate from Northwestern University. He is a 2016 graduate of the Erickson Living University Leadership Experience.

Phoebe Graham, Director of Continuing Care 

Phoebe Graham is both a licensed nursing home administrator and a licensed social worker. She spent several years at Riderwood prior to joining the Charlestown team in 2015 as assistant administrator. Phoebe holds a master of health adminstration degree, a master of social work degree, and a bachelor of arts in psychology. She also completed a fellowship in leadership education in neurodevelopmental disabilities through the University of Massachusetts Medical School. In addition to Phoebe's training and education, she brings with her extensive management, leadership, and human relations skills.
